THE HUNTER & THE BEAR
A Story of Taste
A Story Told by a Native Speaker
The Hunter & the Bear is a motion graphics piece based on the traditional Cherokee folktale The Bear Man. New Kituwah Academy, a private Cherokee & English bi-lingual elementary school, tasked Western Carolina University graphic design students with creating an originally made animation for classroom use. The requirements included that the educational video much teach one of the five senses, the Cherokee language, and significant to Applachian indigenous culture. After being used in the classroom and successfully recognized by both education facilitators and students, New Kituwah Academy (alongside the honorable help of indigenous and fully fluent Cherokee elders), granted permission for a full Cherokee translation.
